HELP: Consistently slow evening DL speeds - Normal upload speeds

Hey guys,

I've been having a recurring problem since around November time with my download speeds tanking after about 5pm and picking back up around midnight or the morning after. My upload speeds aren't affected strangely and I can't think of a problem my end that could be causing the issue.

I've signed in and ran the service test with no issues, I've restarted all my equipment numerous times and there are no broadband issues in my area either, the only thing that has changed over the last 3-4 months is I had the new Super Hub 2 router installed (all the connections feel absolutely solid and secure).

I'm assuming that there might be a data overload on my line as I've stumbled across this issue on other forums too, or that it may be the local cabinet is due for an upgrade/maintenance, although I'm crossing my fingers that's not the issue!

As you can see from some of my speed records, the DL tanks at roughly the same time but the speeds are great first thing and around lunch time. Like I said these records go back to at least 20th November. I can barely stream videos or chat on the PS4 every evening now and it's getting really annoying considering I'm paying in excess of £50 a month for this 'service'.

Here are my latest downstream channels:

Re: HELP: Consistently slow evening DL speeds - Normal upload speeds

UPDATE:

Tested the net again as it's a Sunday (05/02/2017) and the DL speeds are ranging between 2Mb - 4Mb, leading me to believe this is a peak-time related issue.

If so I'll be cancelling my Virgin subscription asap unless they can address the issue with peak time demand, which is a shame as I've been a Virgin customer for about 5-6 years now.

Any help would be really appreciated guys.

Thanks.

Booted in modem mode and run another speed test - ping seems to be abnormally higher than usual with the peak-time slowdown:

(Using direct Ethernet connection)

Re: HELP: Consistently slow evening DL speeds - Normal upload speeds

Hi MarkOnline,

Sorry to hear you're getting poor speeds. I've checked your connection and can see there is a contention fault in the area under ticket F004392349. This will cause slow speeds at peak times such as evenings and weekends and is due for review 15/03/17.
