Free of charge speed upgrades (50 -> 100, 100 -> 200 etc)?

Looking at today's press release ...

https://www.virginmedia.com/content/virginmedia/dotcom/en/corporate/media-centre/press-releases/virg...

No 50mb/s bundle any more, new prices are:

VIVID 100 solus

£32.25

VIVD 200 solus

£37.25

VIVID 200 Gamer

£42.25

VIVID 300 solus

£47.25

VIVIV 100 with home phone

£40

Presumably our 50mb/s accounts will be upgraded to 100 etc at some point?

 -- Edit:

I see there was a thread already for this, didn't see it before:

50 should of gone to 70 by now.

Interesting to see though, 'should' be speed boosts all round again.

One thing I do like is the increased upload speeds with it.

100Mbs going to 12Mbs upload

Re: Free of charge speed upgrades (50 -> 100, 100 -> 200 etc)?

Remember that only some older 50Mbps customers will get the 70Mbps increase. Customers on the more recent version of 50Mbps don't qualify for any inclusive increase currently.

To start with I'd expect that these new tiers will be upgrade options only where appropriate. So if you're on either 50Mbps or 70Mbps (or even the older VIVID 100), to get the new VIVID 100 tier with the 12Mps upload it'll involve a new bundle deal.

However based on previous years, at some point there may well be activity to offer increases without a new bundle deal.

Looking forward to both :-)

I think I must have missed that first speed boost, joined when 50mb/s was the new standard, so not sure of the process.  Does everyone just get switched up to the new speed overnight, or is it gradually phased in across areas?

Was a gradual phase over time. Some still going (were released from October 2015)

But is only available if you had broadband before October 2015. 50Mbps (and 100Mbps) sold after that doesn't qualify.
