Broadband package is 200, never get more than 100

I've been monitoring my network performance (FK2 postcode area) for a few weeks now and I never, ever get over 100Mbps despite being on the 200Mbps package with Virgin.

I've tried multiple devices, all cabled directly to my TP Link AC1750 router which is turned cabled to my Virgin Hub running in modem mode. The maximum I've ever seen on a speedtest.net test is about 94Mbps.

I did call Virgin, and the support person ran some tests, including putting the Hub back into router mode and connecting to it instead of the TP Link box. I was told that all looked fine. However, the performance results were similar to what I'd seen before.

Anyone got any ideas as to how I could move this forward?

94Mbs sounds like you are capped by hardware/software somewhere. The usual suspects are the cable/the ethernet ports on your device/killer network manager software.

I did think about that. All the interfaces are GigE, and I don't have any network management.

BTW Virgin area is 11, in case anyone else has similar issues.

Area codes mean nothing. They are purely commercial billing codes.


Have you checked through software settings?



If your speeds weren't at the ~90Mbs bottleneck I wouldn't be thinking hardware/software but this points at it.

Hi 3b,

Just to add to Shaf's advice I've run a few checks on your service from this end and all looks in good health, with no apparent peak time contention, noise or power level problems evident.

200mb speeds should be very achievable.
