Birmingham B31 unusable <2mbps on Vivid 200 connection in peak hours

Hey there! I've been experiencing an atrocious slowdown in peak hours throughout the month of December.

I have called support 5 times and been told a multitude of different explanations, each time I call I receive a different one.

One time I was told we had too many new users in the area due to a Christmas deal and it'd be fixed within a couple of days (first week of December)

The next time I was told there was damage to the cables in the area and they were being repaired within the week (second week of December)

Third time I was told that the area is undergoing an upgrade and the incredibly slow peak hours speeds would remain until the 16th of February.

On my area service status check, the only registered issue is the "Windows 10 upgrade" even though friends in the area are suffering similar slowdowns to unusable levels in peak hours.

(Area Ref 12)

For clarity the following speedtest results were conducted through a wired connection in peak hours

In non-peak hours it seems fine

Here's my router stats

Any help or at least a consistent explanation for these slow speeds would be massively appreciated. I feel like I keep on getting different responses and this could go on indefinitely.

I would go with the first answer plus add one of my own, it will be fixed in about 2-24 months

Thomas, it's not just you, theres a 26 page thread for area 12 exclusivly which can be found here:

http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Speed/1-2mbps-download-12mbps-upload-area-12-152mb-broadband/td-...

You may wish to join in, a number of 'fault ref' codes have been published as well their supposed fix AKA review dates.

If you don't have a ref for a high utilisation issue, I suggest you phone and get one and add it to the record, as well as setting yourself up on speedtest and thinkbroadband so you have plenty of evidence to knock back at them when you come to ask for a discount or decide to leave your contract without having to pay any penalty fees.

The 16th of Feb' date is the key here. That'll be a review date for a F Number (Over utilisation.).

Re: Birmingham B31 unusable <2mbps on Vivid 200 connection in peak hours

Yep, I'm from the Birmingham Area as well, particularly in the Walsall Area and I'm on Virgin Media 150MB Internet package. My speed has also been atrocious! barley getting 5MB download on a 150MB connection and it's been like this now for over a week. It's a joke to be fair at the price that I'm paying for this Internet. Maybe I may think of switching to a competitor because this is unacceptable.

My Area Code is: 04

Walsall

Re: Birmingham B31 unusable <2mbps on Vivid 200 connection in peak hours

Thanks, i'm glad it's not just me.

I'm wondering if we can at least get this error addressed on the area status check other than the "Windows 10 Upgrade" issue, I know a lot of people complaining about it who are unsure of what is going on.

I'm sure Virgin would want to make sure the issue is made known to the effected subscribers to save them hassle.

Any idea how to get my monthly bill reduced until this is addressed?

I'm having to pay extra for tethering my 4G phone every evening for a more reliable connection for gaming as it is.

I heard that if you phone up and make your complaints known they will reduce your bill. Something along those lines.

Re: Birmingham B31 unusable <2mbps on Vivid 200 connection in peak hours

Same here on 152mb (to be 200 eventually) in B64 postcode area 04

When I had VM broadband installed I was told by the installer it would be sorted later that month that was August 2014

Now my speeds are in single digits peak time and as a certain other provider can't be bothered to put a fibre connection to our street I've stayed - for now - though having said that my old copper wire broadband was faster at peak times

Despite all this there is still "no known issues" in my service area.
