BB speed nowhere near 100MB

Evening,

Apologies in advance for complaining haha.

I've signed up for the 100VIVID 100MB broadband, and, well, it's not going great. At off peak times, the download speed is hovering somewhere between 30-35MB, which, isn't really good enough.

Some help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: BB speed nowhere near 100MB

It would be worth spending a couple of quid to get one. 35Mbps is a typical wifi speed on a single stream wireless device on the 2.4Ghz band, using a single channel.

Without testing wired it would be hard to tell if the problem is with VM's internet supply or with the wireless.

What device are you testing with?

Re: BB speed nowhere near 100MB

How are you connecting wired or wirelessly?

If wireless, try wired directly to the hub with a Cat 5e or better ethernet cable

Re: BB speed nowhere near 100MB

So, without wishing to sound idiotic, is the 'up to' 100MB the sort of speed that you can only expect from an ethernet connection?

I've been using Ookla to test the speed.

Re: BB speed nowhere near 100MB

You can get 100mb on the right wireless system as well but wireless has many determining factors that will reduce the speed, wired is less complex.

Do you know what wifi card you have or the model of your laptop?

Re: BB speed nowhere near 100MB

That laptop is more than capable of 100mb on wireless, did you connect to the 2.4 or 5ghz wireless when you connected?

Re: BB speed nowhere near 100MB

keeps fluctuating between the two. Right now, it says '2.4'. When I check the frequency. The day I first connected, it was saying 5.

Re: BB speed nowhere near 100MB

Out of curiosity, does anyone know, or recommend what to adjust the hub's wireless settings to, so they're optimal? Which channels work best, etc?

Thanks.
