Awful speeds

Day one with Virgin, did I make a big mistake?

I had BB installed this morning. It works but the speeds are atrocious.
I am area 31 if that makes a difference, Hp3 9sj

I have run a number of different speed tests, using wifi and RJ45, using windows, iOS and android, probably 30 tests and I am getting an average of about 10mbps down and 4mbps up.

I tried both before and after midnight, but there shouldn't be any traffic management on downloads given this is the first day, also I have not uploaded anything except page requests.

Does anyone know where I start?
Is this straight to support or straight in the bin and back to sky?

Well after reading here it seems massive contention issues in area 31, time to cancel in the morning and move back to sky.
Surely virgin should be forced to highlight these issues to new customers, very shoddy practice if they knowing sell a product they cannot deliver.

Well spoke too soon, not tried a speed test in a week or so but back to normal.
Average 4 down and 2 up.

Welcome to the oversubscribed (but we'll still try and push our superfast broadband on anybody) world of Virgin Media.

Thanks for getting back to us. I'm really sorry to hear that these slow speed issues are still continuing. When checking the fault ticket has been reopened for SNR issues. This type of fault can cause slow/intermittent connection at times. Our engineers have estimated that this fault will be fixed by 19/01/2017.Apologies for the inconvenience this must be causing you
