Given how difficult it is to send these to VM to get them blocked this is the best we can do.
Thing is, VM can't really block them, many users don't even use a virgin media email address, my billing email address is one i own thats not even on a VM server, and even if they blocked this they would just change the wording slightly and it would get through the filter again etc
The only solution is educating end users, but thats not something that can really be done easily and there is no way to ensure everyone gets the message, even if VM were to send out an email that told people to ignore emails they would just end up having spam messages go out to say that you can disregard the last email as spam etc, you can't win the spam wars
I agree it should be a bit more prominent (on the VM homepage would be good) as it took me a bit of time to find it (Internet search). The phishing mailbox (again a search of the help pages) seems to be a replacement for the netreport page and any future spam should be sent there as they are phishing emails. In my opinion this should be given more prominence too.
As Shane says above, the spam wars are difficult as spammers "borrow" servers, and your email address can end up on lists, DVD's etc which are sold on.
After a bit of time away from the innernets, I am now back. I received some spam which contained my postal address. Thing is, whilst this is worrying and makes a mockery of data protection laws, not much actually happens. However, that is beside the point. As I've said elsewhere in the past, the internet in it's current form is obsolete in my opinion. Unfortunately hacking is nothing new as detailed here:
