modem mode and router cable question

Hi

I currently have my superhub which I have in modem mode situated next to my asus n66u router in the front room.

Im looking to move my router more centrally in the house.

If I installed a network panel extension box into my wall would it be ok to have the hub and router between this?

Hope that makes sense Im just not sure if modem mode only works with a direct cable between devices.

Thanks

Re: modem mode and router cable question

Modem mode disables all the internal routing options in the Hub and provides an unfiltered internet connection to a socket on the Hub.

So as long as the rest of your network setup is valid for that connection, it's up to you how it's then wired.

Re: modem mode and router cable question

Hi

Yep Im aware of what modem mode does, I was just not sure if I can put my router in another room and connect the wires to a network wall plate I may install.

basically the hub and router will not be connected from A to B, I would have an extension wall socket in between, I guess it is point A to B still, but just an extra cable in between.

Re: modem mode and router cable question

Yes, that's correct.

As long the connection between the Hub and your own router was a valid network run then it would be fine.

Re: modem mode and router cable question

network wall plate is basically a wire through the wall by Ethernet so long as the Ethernet cable is CAT 6 you should be find I suggest a double wall plate this way you can run Ethernet back from the router.

Re: modem mode and router cable question

thank you both.

I may install a 2 or 3 port wall plate then.

You say cat 6 is best option?

could I still use cat5e patch cables with cat6 wall plate networking?

Also should the cat cable be in a certain type of conduit, it will run mostly under floorboards.

Sorry for all the questions Im a complete novice when it comes to this.

You can the reason for the move to CAT 6 is that you really don't want to redo it later on or find the speed drops to 100Mb link.
