VM SuperHub 3 wifi hotspot

I upgraded to the SuperHub 3 on Friday, I live in an area that's gone live with turning residential routers into public wifi hotspots (my neighbours in the street are transmitting Virgin Media wifi) I am opted in to the VM wifi on my profile, so how long until my router becomes a VM wifi hotspot?

Re: VM SuperHub 3 wifi hotspot

Just to point out you can't connect to the VM WiFi hotspot on your own Hub using broadband account details. In your home you use your personal SSID that's on the Hub.

Re: VM SuperHub 3 wifi hotspot

You may need to power cycle your Hub to get the changes.

Is that turning off and on again? I've tried that a couple of times!

Re: VM SuperHub 3 wifi hotspot

I get that, but I should still be able to see a wifi signal saying VM wifi from my router?

Re: VM SuperHub 3 wifi hotspot

All of the VM WiFi hotspots have the same 'Virgin Media' name. So the signal from your Hub will merge with those coming from your neighbours.

By design it's supposed to be difficult to work out where the signal is coming from, so that people using the service can't identify which Hub they're connecting to.

Re: VM SuperHub 3 wifi hotspot

Basically I don't get no VirginMedia wifi signal in my house, I have to walk at least 6 houses away, the only wifi signal I receive inside my house is my own wifi signal, not even the neighbours show up!
So basically you can't tell if you're own router is broadcasting a hotspot signal???
I thought I would be able to at least see a strong wifi signal called Virgin Media Wifi from within my house?

Re: VM SuperHub 3 wifi hotspot

Ah OK, I understand the setup a bit better now. You are right you should at least be able to see a 'Virgin Media' SSID, even if you can't connect to it.

I know it can take up to four days for someone opting out of the service to have the signal stopped. The same could be true for the signal to turn on for a new Hub in an area where the hotspots are enabled.

Thanks for your reply!
TBH I've never actually opted in, I think it was set by default? But I'm definitely opted in..
