New IP address since outage yesterday

After there were 2 short outages yesterday, my IP changed. Speedtest is now showing my location as in Bristol, 120 miles away from me in SW London. I realise the IP addy is not always very close to you, but it's usually within a few miles, so why so far away now?

Think broadband monitor was good before the switch, now the maximum latency is much higher, although speedtest shows my speeds are still as good as usual.

Virgin say they cannot switch it back, so is there a way to force it back to nearer me?

Virgin phone support also had no answer to the devices showing the incorrect names/ connections - they just suggested a reset, which I have done, but the devices are still incorrect (eg it's showing my android phone as connected via ethernet.

Re: New IP address since outage yesterday

hiya @Corinneangela would be an issue with the Geolocation system used via speedtest since might have not updated their records correctly.. nothing virginmedia can do about that.. you can report this via -> https://support.speedtest.net/hc/en-us/articles/203845660-How-do-I-correct-my-location-

as for moving you back to the the different IP doing this will have no effect on your speed, its done to the work been done on the CMTS (where all the cables join up) would best to do a check on signal levels by going to http://192.168.0.1 clicking router status top right [no need to login] and if you could copy/paste the downstream, upstream, network log dont worry about the formatting we can easily read it..

as for why the hub is miss-reporting the connection method rather tricky to resolve that could be issue with firmware etc..

Re: New IP address since outage yesterday

Thanks Paul Smiley Happy

No idea why Think broadband is showing such high max latency then. As I said - speeds remain fine.

Re the Hub interface getting names of devices and connections wrong, guess I will have to wait for another new firmware update. Hopefully others will report the same issue so they fix it.

Re: New IP address since outage yesterday

How do we post links to the results of Think broadband monitor.. whichever format I try to post it the site tells me it's not allowed.
