LACK OF PORTS ON SUPERHUB

So I've just used up the last port and cannot connect anymore devices.

Any ideas on the best way to proceed?

Do Virgin supply a hub with more ports or would a simple Ethernet switch suffice?

thanks

4 ports Ethernet ports is the max available. Hubs from ISPs come with 4 Ethernet ports as standard, including a lot of 3rd party routers <£200. Get a switch with the amount of ports you need and you'll be sorted.

Yes, it would. But considering you could get an 8 port switch for about £20 you'll have plenty of spares! Switches with less ports are even cheaper.

Re: LACK OF PORTS ON SUPERHUB

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'd like to know one thing, does the switch connect directly to the Superhub, thus using up one of the existing ports?

Re: LACK OF PORTS ON SUPERHUB

Ok, please forgive my total ignorance, but can an 8 port switch totally replace the Superhub? Will it accommodate the broadband signal coming into the house?

Re: LACK OF PORTS ON SUPERHUB

No. A switch is like an power extension lead, but for networking. It connects to an existing socket and then provides more connections.

It doesn't replace the existing kit.

Re: LACK OF PORTS ON SUPERHUB

You can even daisy chain them. I have an 8 switch wired to another 8 switch in the next room.no loss of speed.

For neatness I only wanted one visible cable to the hub. The switches can be hidden at floor level.
