Re: HUB 3 Connected Device Names muddled

same problem. actually lil bit different. whenever I change any WIRELESS device, after updating the page, my WIRED PC always change name to the one I tried update recently. no solution I reckon..... it,s always pc changing the name and never the second WIRED device (router).

my own solution is piece of paper next to computer, so I know what is what by the address. Smiley Wink

Same problem here.

Any chance of a solution on the forum, rather than by PM ?

(PS - this has been going on for a year now with no resolution?   V V Poor)

Actually it's been going on for at least 17 months and thru 88J3, 88J5, 88S, 88T and 116V firmware levels but let's not dwell on semantics....   Smiley Wink

Re: HUB 3 Connected Device Names muddled

Hi

Since the Support pages pointed me here, I thought it not unreasonable to expect an answer from Virgin on this issue.

I'll just phone your customer service line then, and arrange an engineer to come out every time this happens.

Thanks for the service.

What was the output of the PM chat?

Something that can be shared on the forum?

Yes, would be nice to know. I hadn't expected 12 months after I started this thread that it would still be unsorted Man Frustrated

The *pro* answer would be:

forget about Virgin router, clearly they just can't do it properly.

Use the hub as a modem and run OpenWRT as a router.

Re: HUB 3 Connected Device Names muddled

After 4 decades in IT then I can't think of many (respected) pro's that wouldn't qualify that with something (more concise, but along the lines of): "your choice to forget about VM Router as it's only a basic "get-you-started" device and the price the average user/market demands ultimately means it won't be flexible/comprehensive to encompass all user scenarios.
Use the Hub in (simulated) ModemMode with the choice of Router that meets your requirements with again your choice of optional firmware."

However be prepared to revert to RouterMode or Modemmode with single end device in the future to diagnose any future issues as you are not paying for VM support of any 3rd party Non VM hardware/firm-software.

Re: HUB 3 Connected Device Names muddled

Just found this thread via google after a frustrating evening of trying to get names attached to the MAC addresses on my network.  The hub jumbles them all up - changing a named wifi device results in renaming a different wired device.  For a hub rolled out to so many customers I'm frankly amazed that this issue has been reported but persists so long.
