Do Virgin restrict VPN connections?

Hi

I work from home and connect via VPN to my company's network.

However I'm only getting very low speed (1.1Mbps down, 0.8Mbps up) on a good 100/6Mb connection.

I'm trying to use a softphone application and its terrible.

My network guy tells me the VPN isn't restricted their end to that extent.

 

So do Virgin 'see' business use and restrict?

Are there any settings I should use?

Putting in modem mode isn't really convenient although my work laptop is connected via cable.

No restriction.

 

I use VPN connections into work and my softphone and lync work well

I often work from home and use VPN, and have never experienced slowdown or disconnections ...

No. If they would have restricted it, or even wanted it to... you would not have been able to access anything through it at all. the reduction is due to a handful of factors including the server count, the distance from the region you're trying to connect and the rest. I'm using Ivacy VPN to secure my transactions and sometimes, to unblock geo-restrictions. and my ping time increases too when i'm streaming from a japanese or an australian ip, but that's because of the distance and is perfectly normal.

Same here, max out my virgin download and upload speed on our work VPN

what are your non vpn speeds like ?

If its only vpn thats slow then maybe somehow encryption is effecting performance, can you test with encryption off etc.

also does does your office have anyway of diagnosing possible issues with your connection ?
