Superhub VS Netgear WNR2000

[ Edited ]

Hi I am having a Superhub installed tomorrow with promises of up to 60mb connection.

Currently I am using a Netgear WNR200 Router which I am very happy with after spending some time configuring the settings.

The functions I am happiest with are the extra security with the WLAN access list, the service blocking (especially on schedule so the kids loose their net connection at a specific time) and the guest network to allow some devices internet without allow them to access any shared files on my home network.

From what I have read all of these functions are not available on the SuperHub router :smileysad:

Would it be possible to use my WNR2000 as a Wireless Repeater, keeping the settings on it as they are thus nesting a network within a network ?

I have also read that it is possible to turn off the Router on the Superhub and LAN connect my WNR 2000 to LAN1 on the Superhub to simply bypass and use the Superhub purely as a Cable Modem.  Would I loose any functionality by doing this?

And lastly, with both scenarios, would my existing WNR2000 keep up with the throughput of the 'up to 60mb connection' ? or would I be putting a big speed barrier between the Modem and my connected machines?

From doing a little digging I am guessing it shouldn't, from looking at WNR2000 Throughput Test, although we all know that reality can often differ from theory.

Thanks all for any help they can offer.

Re: Superhub VS Netgear WNR2000

wireless on the wnr2000 is the same spec as the superhub but the wnr will probably have a better range - the superhub is gigabit on its lan ports - that is certainly better if you have gigabit network cards in any pc's and you want to transfer files

but test the superhub - depending on your setup it could do all you want - if not put in in modem mode and try the wnr2000 - that will be as good as you have now and should be fine at 60meg

Re: Superhub VS Netgear WNR2000

Thanks adacom for your reply

So im looking good to turn off the superhub router and LAN connect the WNR2000

  • WLAN Connection should be same speed as it would be directly from the SuperHub
  • Loss of speed through LAN, although I only transfer LAN to LAN for streaming movies from my PC to XBOX 360 on Media Centre
  • Same speed transferring files LAN to WLAN since the Wireless is less than the 100mb threshold on the WNR2000 LAN anyway
  • I keep all the settings I already have so time saved
  • And I keep the security options already listed that don't seem to come with the SuperHub (guest network etc)

Unless I have missed something or anyone has any other information, I think my mind is made up to stick with the WNR2000 and use the SuperHub solely as a Cable Modem

Can anyone advise though about my thought of using both i.e. the WNR2000 as a Repeater.

Hi Conker2008,

You can connect your own wireless router  to the superhub on modem mode .

Kind Regards,
