SRJ Debt Recoveries?

Recently I've had a letter from SRJ Debt Recovery agency claiming that I owe VM £33.61.

Immediatley I phoned VM where I was assured that SRJ has nothing to do with them, and there was no outstanding balance on my account (if there was I would've been contacted by VM and/or cut off from my services a logn time ago.)

I was advised to ignore them, or if need be call them and explain I owe them nothing. Rather than phoning them (and probably being charged the amount that I 'owe them' through phone charges) I decided to ignore the letter.

This at first gave me peace of mind, but since then I have received atleast 2 text messages a day, and probably another letter will be arriving soon.

Anyone have any suggestions about what to do!? Or should I take this to citizens advice bureau?

Re: SRJ Debt Recoveries?

SRJ are the company that BT use to recover debt.

Have you EVER had a service from BT?

VM use Moorcroft debt agency.

Debt agencies have no power to take money from people, they will hound people but thats all they can do.

Debt agencies cannot enter onto your credit ratings either if you do not enter into any contract with them, However the company that suffered the original debt can.

Re: SRJ Debt Recoveries?

"Dear Sir/Madam.

We have made enquiries for confirmation of your current place of residence. Information has been received confirming that your address details have changed to this address.

Due to data protection legislation details of the account are not included in this letter.

Please call us immediately on 08453137203 quoting the above reference for more information.

Yours sincerely,

SRJ"

Now to me this screams fake! First off they have it addressed to me personally, but start of with 'Dear Sir/Madam' and then they refuse to give me any information on who the debt is for etc and finally ending the letter with 'SRJ'

Re: SRJ Debt Recoveries?

Dont respond to any of their letters is my advice, if you do, deny that you are the person named (they may ask you who you are or date of birth, dont tell them. if you say it is you but you have no debtthey wont go away, they will hound you, they are not interested if the debt is real or not, they are there to chase money and get commission on it.

I know debt agencies and how they operate.

So how do you think that this is to do with a Virgin Media debt of £33.61 as you said in your first post?

The letter is correct as they don't actually know if they have got the right person and can't put any more detail in the letter as you might be (and probably are) the wrong person.

As I said previously, SRJ deal with BT debt recovery. If you are happy, as you stated, that you have no BT debt, give the number a call and get it sorted, otherwise you may get further letters and other actions.

Re: SRJ Debt Recoveries?

I found out the amount of debt I apparently owed VM because I phoned them as soon as I got the letter to find out why. I didn't admit any debt, and then phoned VM about it afterwards, where they said I owed them nothing and they didn't deal with SRJ.
