Port Blocking by VM

Hi Folks

I'm currently trying to do an online course that requires me to have port 443 open, as far as I can see everything is OK with my PC and router, but the port is still blocked. My obvious question, despite reading several entries on this forum, is have VM started to block this port for some reason?

Cheers

Alex

Re: Port Blocking by VM

Thanks for the response

Yep, Firewall enabled, firewall disabled run port scanner and the port is blocked, tried port forwarding on router, set up rules in firewall, it all seems to say that the port is being blocked externally!!

Next step is to find a cauldron, light a fire and go looking for wing of bat and ear of newt etc :-)

What online course requires you to have port 443 open? All online courses are outbound to port 443 there is no reason at all and without question why they need a inbound connection to you.

Its more likely that you need Java.

From low to high of Super Hub all I wanted was a modem not the VMDG280 (which back then is only what I would have gotten).
The more that use modem mode the more we need IPv6: Pingtest, 20Mb BB M, BQM, Gateway On/Off show, Outgoing ports test

Re: Port Blocking by VM

443 is the standard httpd port and without it you would be blocked from every secure site. logons and banking/shopping etc. you wont been any ports open but check your flash and java are upto date. try another browser if you can. if that fails try another computer/laptop if you have one

Re: Port Blocking by VM

Thanks for the responses, much appreciated

Course is from MS

Latest flash and java installed, already tried on different machine still the same, Windows 7 firewall disabled, router firewall disabled (for testing), ran the tester from MS learning to see if you can access their labs as part of the course, and it still comes back and says that port 443 is closed, ShieldsUp reports port in stealth mode, only conclusion I can come to is that something external to my setup is blocking this port

Cheers for all the help Folks

Re: Port Blocking by VM

Well, wierdest thing I've ever come across, it seems to be a problem with W7 and IE9 accessing the site! Press ganged an old XP machine back into service and it works fine. I'm going back to my old idea of a cauldron etc, pure black magic this stuff sometimes :-)

Thanks for all the help
