Got a bill after I terminated the cable contract

Hi,

I used to use the broadband cable service and have cancelled it almost a year ago. I contacted the virgin store and paid all the outstanding debt already. Few days ago, I just received a letter from debt recovery company saying I still have a 49.50 pounds debt outstanding with virgin. I'm not sure if this is because I did not return the equipment. (I cannot remember if my friend successfully returned the equipment or not) Anyway, I tried the pay the outstanding debt following the letter's instruction by paying online but could not pay. I called the company and they told me I need to contact Virgin myself.

Now here's the problem, virgin's telephone customer's service requires the account number which once I enter, the automated system responded that the account does not exist anymore.

Who should I contact?

This is pretty serious because I do not want to have my credit rating to be affected.

Thank you

ring 08454541111 when it asks is this the telephone number you wish to talk about press 2 and then go to option 5,2

the non return of equiptment is more then £49.50 unless it was old equiptment

hope this helps
