10 mb broadband has slowed right down

Seems I am not alone in this problem.  I have tried the suggestions on the "help", but it is still not reacting as quickly as it did 4 weeks ago.  It is taking up to 45 seconds to open a simple email that has no attachments.  As there are so many posts on the forum, is this a national phenomenon?

Re: 10 mb broadband has slowed right down

can you provide some more information about your problem. Afew things that will help...

Is the problem only with emails?

What email client/wensite are you using?

Are you running any virus scanners/firewalls?

Re: 10 mb broadband has slowed right down

Hi,

the slowness isn't just emails, it's opening webpages too.  I run a standard AVTK/firewall combo, keep Windows updated and run a weekly scan on hard drive.  Things were fine up till about four weeks ago.  I stopped the modem and connected it to my laptop to update the AVYK on that machine, and when I reconnected it to the desktop pc, it was slow.  This has never happened before, and I connect my laptop  every month to do the same update.

Re: 10 mb broadband has slowed right down

can you post your modem stats and logs from 192.168.100.1

(Taken From Mark_Wilkin Post)
Inside the modem are various web pages that contain useful information about your connection. When reporting a connection fault it may be useful to include some of the information found within these pages. To view them open up your web browser and type http://192.168.100.1 into the address bar and press Enter.

The main information the Support team are interested in are the Downstream Power Level/Levels, Upstream Power Level and Downstream SNR (called RxMER on some modems). Depending on the model of modem you have this information will either be located in the ‘Signal’ page or the ‘Downstream’ and ‘Upstream’ pages.

Please note some modems will require you to log in before you can view these pages. The login details for both the username and password is root.

If using Netgear VMDG280
Visit http://192.168.0.1 enter password when prompted (This can be found on a sticker on your VMDG280)
Click on the Connection and paste the information there.

Re: 10 mb broadband has slowed right down

Hi CeR

I have checked your local network and am unable to find an issue.  As your modem is offline at present I am unable to run any direct tests however.  Can you post again once your modem is back online and can I ask you to keep it online until we post again.  Also can you take a look at this sticky and post the information requested.

Regards,

Lee Grant

Re: 10 mb broadband has slowed right down

Hello Lee,

Back on line now, even though the modem has been unplugged for a while, it's still a bit slow.

Thanks

Re: 10 mb broadband has slowed right down

I have been having the same problem. I am meant to be getting 10mb but I am am only getting 1-2mb when I test on speedtest.net. Every now and then I have a small problem but all I normally need to do is unplug both my router and modem for 5 or so mins and then when I restart it it works fine.

I have tried unplugging both for an hour or so but still no joy. I have also tried several laptops both wired and wireless and even direct from the modem but still the low speed remains.

Not sure if there is any way to sort this of if any work is being done in my are but any help would be appreciated.
