WiFi router

Hay all.
My router is misbehaving. (it's the dual band router provided by Virgin)
My internet speed is 50mbps
When I'm using it on the 5ghz frequency it's working fine. But on the 2.5ghz I'm getting less then 1mbps download speed. I have looked and have no other wi-fi interfering with the channels. Any help to resolve this?

Re: WiFi router

This does sound like a interference problem.

Which version of the dual band router is it? The model number should be printed on the base

How did you test for interfering channels, did you use a wifi scanner? Bear in mind that wireless channels overlap on the 2.4Ghz band.

What signal strength do you get 1m away from the hub? (The wireless scanner should show this) This would test if the wireless radio is failing.

I would also be aware the wireless signal can be affected by domestic appliances like A\V streaning devices, Baby monitors, Chordless phones, Microwave ovens, Plasma TVs, Security systems etc. Cisco report that 30% of interference problems arise from this type of interference.
