Very high ping when downloading. Is this right?

My Broadband Ping - Virgin Mediocre

Above shows my ping when downloading a game (at about 2MB/s). My ping has been over 800ms the entire time and I'm the only one using the net in my house. Is there an issue with my router? I'm sure I never used to have such an issue when downloading.

Do a pathping or traceroute to see where it is emanating from.

I dont suppose you are using a SH3?

If you are then that answers the question!

If you are saturating your upstream line remember this will affect ping as will maxxing out the download although not to that extent really!

I guess its another SH3 "feature" of its woefully inadequate firmware testing!
I think the black box testing and white box tested testing was written on the back of a **bleep** packet!

Upstream should be minimal, I'm downloading one thing from Steam. It's a SH2ac, VIVID 200 Optical Fibre package. I've been told there is an issue in my area (over subscription) which should be sorted 11th Jan. Wanted to make sure we don't have any hardware issues on top of that.

Its your Superhub usually if its a SH3 especially!

Probably an issue in your local core just have to wait and see!

I'm sorry to read that you are having issues with your broadband connection.

 

I've managed to locate your account, and can see a high peak time traffic fault in your area which will be causing this issue. Our networks team are investigating the problem and are improving bandwidth and performance to help with this issue. The reference number is F004088639 and with a review date of 11th January 2017.

 

I will pass this across to one of my colleagues who will be in touch with more information.
