Upstream Modulation is dropping to 16QAM

Hi,

Recently my upstream modulations have dropped to 16 instead of the usual 64. I'm not noticing any major problems except for some packet loss when playing CSGO. Is this the cause?

Here's some screenshots...

Re: Upstream Modulation is dropping to 16QAM

Hi Crazy_Joe,

Hope all is well. Thanks for posting on the community.

I appreciate your query in regards to the QAM dropping to 16 and apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.

Normally this can be caused by noise ingress or return path issues, I can see on your connection it is now on QAM64 and the network is running fine with no issues.

If you are still experiencing packet loss, this may be a separate issue.

Do you notice this at all times of the day?

Is the device itself, whether it is a PC/Xbox/PS4, connected via wired or wireless?

Hope to hear from you soon

Sam

Re: Upstream Modulation is dropping to 16QAM

Hi,

I still get packet loss when playing csgo, but it happens randomly so not sure how it could be pinned down to see what the problem is?

I connect directly to a PC with an ethernet cable.

Maybe it could be something to do with my cabinet, I've reported it "damaged" twice now and nothing has been done. It has been sprayed with graffiti and has been wedged open a bit but the internet seems to be running fine.

This is my BQM graph from Monday where there was a small bit of packet loss but I wasn't online to see if csgo was affected.

Lots of packet loss over the last 24 hours, clearly something is going on...

Re: Upstream Modulation is dropping to 16QAM

So I get a email saying that someone has replied to my topic and I visit the thread and there is no reply, top quality forum this is....

Anyway, more packet loss over the last few days...

Re: Upstream Modulation is dropping to 16QAM

Really sorry to hear about the connection fault experienced Crazy_Joe,

Apologies also for any delay in getting back to you.

I've located your account and there does appear to be a potential fault with the equipment SNR.

I'd like to arrange for one of our engineers to attend and take a closer look at this for you.

I've sent you a private message so that we can get this booked in.

Speak soon,

Nat_J

Re: Upstream Modulation is dropping to 16QAM

Hello Crazy_Joe

Thanks for getting back to Nat, she is off at the moment so hope you do not mind but I am dealing with her messages. We do not need to send you an engineer anymore as there was an area problem causing the low SNR and as you mentioned also dropping the modulation level, apologies for the inconvenience. Fingers crossed it has improved for you.

Thank you

Nicola

Hi,

The upstream has dropped to 16QAM again as shown here.

I don't even know if it's a big deal or not, the connection seems fine and an engineer was doing an install for a neighbour a few days ago so maybe he sorted something.

The cabinet door still looks like it's wedged open a bit though and it's still covered in graffiti if someone could come out and sort that.

Re: Upstream Modulation is dropping to 16QAM

Hello Crazy_Joe

Thanks for letting us know, dropping to QAM16 is something that can happen automatically when the line cannot sustain a higher modulation. Sometimes once it has switched down the errors and SNR improves so much that you will not notice something however in your case we still have some errors so I have asked our engineers to take another look F005210141. I am surprised but pleased you did not spot it to be honest.

I will drop you a PM about getting the cabinet looked at, please reply when you have a moment.

Thank you

Nicola
