SuperHub 3 in Modem Mode with Asus DSL-AC68U

Hi Folks

Has anyone had an experience setting up an Asus DSL-AC68U router, using the SuperHub 3 in modem mode?

This router was previously setup for use with BT Infinity 2, so all the setting are for that ISP. Not too sure if that is the issue, but every time I have tried it just come up with a DSL issue and complains about the routers not being on the same subnet (or something like that, should have taken a screenshot). Is it worth factory resetting the Asus router?

Any advice will be greatly received.

Regards

Mark

There's more to it than that.

Maybe this link will help:

How to put the Hub 3.0 back into Router mode

There are two ways to get your Super Hub back into Hub mode:

  1. Open a web browser and enter 192.168.100.1 into the address bar.
  2. Enter your Hub 3.0 settings password. The default password is printed on the bottom of the Hub 3.0. If you have changed the default password, enter that password instead.
  3. Once you've logged in, click Modem Mode on the left.
  4. Click the option next to Disable Modem Mode and then click Apply changes.
  5. The Hub will reboot and return to router mode

The second option is the factory reset you already know about.

ADSL routers are not compatible with VM cable technology, so it won't work with the hub in modem mode. however, you may be able to put it into Access Point mode and use it as a wireless access point with the hub in router mode.

Re: SuperHub 3 in Modem Mode with Asus DSL-AC68U

Oh dear, was not expecting that.

Asus say:

Works with any kind of internet connection DSL-AC68U supports all common types of DSL connection, including ADSL2, ADSL2+, ADSL and VDSL2. Thanks to its Ethernet WAN option, it can also be used seamlessly with any fiber or cable-based modem with an Ethernet connection. This makes it ideal for those who intend to upgrade their ISP in the future.

If that's the case, do a Factory Reset.

You have nothing to lose, as it's not working as currently configured.

Re: SuperHub 3 in Modem Mode with Asus DSL-AC68U

Google says:

"The Asus DSL-AC68U may be expensive, but it is flexible. It has a built in ADSL and VDSL modem, and one of its LAN ports can serve either as a Gigabit Ethernet or a WAN port. This means you'll still be able to use the router if you switch from ADSL to a cable or fibre service, or vice versa; the setting to swap from using the DSL port to the RJ45 WAN port is hidden away under the Dual WAN menu. "

Re: SuperHub 3 in Modem Mode with Asus DSL-AC68U

I think Griffin got confused because of the mention of DSL prefix - TBH I would have probably answered the same way initially.

I don't know enough about the GUI but there should be an option to turn one of the four LAN ports into a WAN port, as obviously you can't use the DSL connection itself with a Cable Modem.

Once you've done this and set the hub 3 to modem mode plug the repurposed LAN port on the ASUS into Port 1 of the Hub 3 and switch the hub 3 power off, wait for a 10 count and power it back on.

The above will clear any current MAC associations in the modems memory and will allow the ASUS to pick up a WAN IP.

Re: SuperHub 3 in Modem Mode with Asus DSL-AC68U

I have the Asus router set up, but before I put the SuperHub3 in to modem mode, does anyone know how I can put it back in router mode. The last couple of time I have done this I have had to factory reset the hub, as I have been unable to access the hub.

Thanks

Mark
