Super Hub VMDG480

I have recently subscribed to another year of your wonderful services, but now have a few niggling problems.

1. Since re-subscribing which included a speed boost to 70mbps, my internets speed frequently drops to around 10mbps.

2. Can my superhub 1 be upgraded to newer SH 3?

3. I was supplied a D-Link DIR-615 standalone router a while ago as the SH1 is rubbish and has to be run in modem mode. The D-Link DIR-615 is now outdated and not capable of supplying the speeds needed, (wifi max 72mbps, RJ45 ports only 10/100) Is the SH1 capable or is it on the boarder line now.

4. If the SH1 is ok to handle the speeds using modem mode, can you send me an upgraded standalone router that with be capable of handling the new wifi ac standard with 10/1000/ or 4000 RJ45 ports.

Re: Super Hub VMDG480

Those sort of things really should have been discussed before contracting for 12months!

Re: Super Hub VMDG480

Maybe VM should check to see if the hardware they supply to run their super fast BB is up to it.? Obviously its not now..

So how do i find out? they,ve up the speed and price, so its only right to up the hardware as its not capable.. It wasnt 3 years ago, now its well beyond its capabilitie..

Come on VM tech support where are you hiding.

I have put up with the beyond par router for some time now...

Re: Super Hub VMDG480

1. VMDG480 has poor WIFI its well documented, that's why VM sent me the D-615 in the 1st place 5 years ago. To patch fix the rubbish VMDG480 WIFI

2. D-615 only has 10/100 RG 45 ports and 2.4ghz wifi  VMDG480 has the faster 10/1000 RG45 ports and 5ghz WIFI, but I cant use them as Im in modem mode because see N0.1

Re: Super Hub VMDG480

The DIR-615 with stock firmware has a throughput of about 80Mb. Put DD-WRT on it and you can get that up to 90Mb.

Your setup is perfectly fine for a 70Mb connection. I have run a VMDG480 at 120Mb no problem in router mode as well as modem mode.

As far as i know the best you would get as a replacement is a Superhub 2AC and not a Hub 3.0.

200Mb(SH2 SH2AC Hub 3.0), 2 X V6 TV XL, Phone M. 100Mb Business (Hitron Hub).

Re: Super Hub VMDG480

The VMDG480 does really well as a modem its just better to use VM equipment as a modem passing your WAN IP to your equipment. So your option is ask for a newer hub or just get yourself a new router for modem mode.

Re: Super Hub VMDG480

The D-615 is maxed out, both in WIFI and Wired networking, Ive just done a test for wired.  I wont even entertain you with WIFI  40Mbps max  on a supposedly 300Mbps Router, This is just with me 1pc sat on the network.

I could just buy a new router, but this is the kit VM supply me with, Its obvious the router is not up to it,

Super Hub 2, 3 new Standalone router I don't care I just want the speeds Im Paying for.

NO Router                                                                                            With Router

Re: Super Hub VMDG480

Flash the DIR-615 with Stock firmware and remove the somewhat limited Virgin version of the firmware. That is what is limiting the DIR-615. I have had one and know what it can do.

VM No longer supply any stand alone routers and the 615 was given to you (yours to keep) free of charge by VM.

As you have demonstrated that the wired speed at the Superhub 1 is hitting 70Mb then VM have supplied you with what your paying for The connection between the CMTS and the Cable Modem.

You have a working Modem. What is connected after that is up to you and if you want a new stand alone router then you will have to buy one. VM will Not supply you with one.

Re: Super Hub VMDG480

I have DD-WRT on the D-615, Its the 1st thing I did 5 years ago it had stock on it not VM, Its bottle necking my speed I never noticed before as I was on a 50Mbps package, Wired hitting 65Mbps max, wifi is hitting 39 Mbps max.......this router should hit 300-Mbps with wifi according to the specs.

Tried all sorts of settings in DD-WRT still the same or worse, There are about 5 different revs of this router, Is my router on its way out?

Im still stuck with 10/100 ports though makes transfer data between pcs slow
