Sudden connection problems to virtual servers through Virgin Media broadband

Hi

As of a few days ago I am no longer able to connect to any of my virtual services through my home computer. The online services I am trying to connect to now all register "too many authentication failures" and are inaccessable. I have contacted my VPS provider and we have run the relevant tests to try and address this problem and after performing a tranceroute we have identified the problem is on Virgin Media's side and they are having some network issues at the start of the route as seen in this test result below. They have advised that I contact you in order to reslove the issue.

Could somebody at Virgin Media please look into this as soon as possible?

Many Thanks

Re: Sudden connection problems to virtual servers through Virgin Media broadband

Hello costa093

Welcome to our forum, I am sorry we took a while to arrive but apologies as we are a little behind. It is not unusual for our routers to not respond to ping requests however the traceroute does seem to arrive so it suggests live traffic is being handled correctly. I appreciate that you are perhaps stuck in the middle of conflicting advice, it may be worth trying modem only mode to eliminate the hub firewall etc, if it still has problems then maybe another chat with your VPS support.

Thank you

Nicola

Re: Sudden connection problems to virtual servers through Virgin Media broadband

I'll just elaborate on Nicola's reply which is wholly accurate. The failed trace route responses are from active nodes that are set to ignore pings, whether all pings or those when a busy threshold is reached. Traceroute pings each active node on the route. Eventually traceroute directly addresses the end-point and, as you see, the ping is given a response.

It seems to me that the authentication failure is at their end. So the message you get needs to be better understood. For example, does that message occur because of unexpected data in the authentication string? Presumably you are trying to log on.
