Static IP address

I have just purchased a belkin netcam (that is, a small security-type camera for home) and have been advised that for it to work, I need to obtain a static IP address from Virgin Media.  Can I check how I do this, and if there is a charge for a static IP address?

Kind regards.

Bernie

Re: Static IP address

Static IP addresses are not available on Virgin Media residential broadband services. It is an option on some business connections.

What is the model of the webcam, as there may be other ways of getting it to work that other forum members can help with.

Thanks for your response.  I would value a name to put with the advice.  Thanks.

Re: Static IP address

Hi Bernie,

Although as has been said VM do not issue static WAN IP addresses they are in practice incredibly sticky.  You can switch off you hub for days and when switched back on again it will still have the same IP.  So it may not be a problem.
