Slow broadband extender speed

I've searched the boards for this particular question but can't see an answer.

I have a Super Hub 3.0 into which I've plugged a BT Broadband Extender 600. That should run at up to 600Mbps but the router diagnostics says that "Wired client on port 3 is running at 100 Mbps.".

I'd like to know if the extender is actually running that slow or if the router is just reporting it incorrectly. The extender works fine otherwise.

Any info welcomed.

Re: Slow broadband extender speed

Hi simbakirk,

It sounds as though the connected device isn't gigabit compatible -  it has a 100mb NIC.

What device is connected on Lan port 3? Are you able to confirm the specifications of it's network card (device manager > network adaptors)?

Re: Slow broadband extender speed

That extender only has 10/100 ports so you'll never get more than 100.

It's a bit of a con the way they describe these things, 600 refers to the maximum theoretical phy rate (Google it and all will become clear). It's the theoretical maximum speed data can be transferred between the home plugs. In the real world it's no where near this.

Dave.

Re: Slow broadband extender speed

Hi Dave

I'm considering new homeplugs and want the fastest possible to go with the Virgin Router which has ports running at 1Gbps. Do you know if there are any actual 1 Gbps home plugs out there?

thanks

Richard
