Shocking WiFi with super hub 3

Have been with virgin for 14 years with minimal issues until last month when i had 2 V6 boxes and a new super hub 3 installed ( the boxes are great ) and the hub is shocking.

I used to have a super hub 2 with no issues whatsoever and was pleased with the signal and coverage it gave me but the new hub is shocking, its in the same location as my original and all of my connected kit is in the same place as before but i cannot get any of it to work reliably since the new hub was installed. I can no longer watch catchup, netflix or amazon prime as the signal just isn't enough and I'm on 200mb! The hub is my second one as the engineer that came to try and fix the issue last month said the hub was at fault but after fitting another new one the issue is exactly the same and even the engineer couldn't get it working consistently when he tried to speed test it ( sitting next to the hub and just repeating the speed test he was getting between 80 which is fine and 2 which isn't ) so he was going to send someone else to have a look but that has yet to happen! please can i have my old hub back?

if you have your old hub they may reconnect it - failing that i dont think the will send a SH2 - the wifi on the 3 is the same or better than the 2 so it may just be setup

download something like inSSIDer for a pc and have a look athe wifi channels around you - choose one thats not busy - it may be as simple as that 

you can get it here - http://lightning-bolt.net/mirrors/ - you can get it from the main site but its hidden as they want to sell you the new one - other sites add all sorts of stuff you dont want

also

log into superhub - 192.168.0.1 - DON'T SIGN IN, click router status  - and post the downstream and upstream figures from the top dropdowns

Thanks tony, I'm on a mac so those links won't work unfortunately.

I have swapped channels about but to no avail and if I'm sitting 2 inches from the hub my speed shouldn't vary between 80 and 2 any way should it even if someone else was on the same channel? Unfortunately the engineer took my old hub with him or i would have tried to have it reconnected.

One thing i have noticed is that the engineer has left the new hub plugged in to my original power supply is it possible the old one doesn't supply enough power for the new hub?

Could you test wired so that you can verify if it is the wifi that's the issue or your internet connection?

getting between 80 and 220 wired which is ok although the engineer did say that the reading were not stable which is why he was going to send someone out to check the box down the road? I'm not sure that this has happened as he told me that once checked they would put a card through the door and I've had no card

levels are ok - a wired test as asked would be useful - they should have fitted the correct power supply and i'm sure when VM get here they will sort that but as far as i remember the spec on the 2 power supply is the same as the 3 - certainly true of the 2ac and the 3

hmmmm a bit of a swing in speeds and that could do with looking into - maybe utilisation - maybe a fault - VM will look at that but that does not explain the dire wifi speeds - i can only come back to channels - thats all you have - there must be something on a mac to test such things - there is on android although i dont know the name of the app - you could just be looking at coincidence - you change to the hub3 and a couple of users near by get new wifi routers that are killing you

as said above the 3 is no worse than the 2 for wifi - imo its slightly better so i dont think its the 3 - the fact you have had it changed again suggests its not a faulty hub - i would doubt the 1st one was but changing it does no harm

i can suggest a full reset - see if that helps - you will lose any settings you have set up but its worth a try - after that - dont know is the truthful answer - well i do but not what you want to hear - hub3 into modem mode and add a good 3rd party wifi router

Thanks tony, 

I've done resets and i will have a look to see if i can find something that works on mac to help me find a channel thats quieter but failing this do you have any suggestions for a decent wifi router?

good wifi routers - theres many - i used to like netgear and they are probably good just not bought one for a while - i have an asus RT-AC66U and would certainly recommend that - the whole asus range seems good - always good to buy from someone like Amazon - you can send stuff back if you are not happy
