I have always preferred to use my own routers as opposed to the ISP
I used to be with BT and used their openreach modem for my RT-AC87U and all worked fine.
Now i'm woth virgin i want to use my RT-AC87U but it isnt working.
I have turned the virgin hub into modem mode and them connected the appropriate wires but no success.
The RT-AC87U has an install wizard that i followed and still no success.
Does anyone else have any experience or guidance on this ?
You need to allow time for the MAC to be unreleased think of it as a stateful map so you need to turn the super hub off when its in modem mode for about 2min or so to allow the change for your RT-AC87U which may get a temp IP and then your WAN IP.
hi, thanks for the reply.
SO if i understand correctly,
turn SH into modem mode. Once in modem mode ( purple light) I should turn it off for several minutes.
Turn SH back on, alow for modem to go to purple light state, then turn on my ac87u modem and follow its setup sequence ?
Thank you, i will get back to you once this is done to let you know how it worked out for me
did I quick test here all be it in modem mode to test on another MAC along with some other testing that I'm doing now you should have no problems getting your RT-AC87U to work in modem mode.
what operation mode should i put the ac87u in ? router-acces point
I ask this as i tried and left the SH in modem mode all night and it wouldnt work.
How to setup:
Hub 3(any port)->Asus(Wan port)
^ I wouldn't recommend the above approach. The ASUS router is a very functional bit of kit.
Set your SH3 into modem only mode and then edit your ASUS router correctly.
Set the router into Wireless Router mode and then on the WAN menu on the left, make sure that it is on DHCP (it might be on PPPOE from your time with BT).
Apart from that, it should just all work assuming you set all that up. You could try spoofing the mac (changing the MAC on the WAN menu, but I doubt that'd be needed.)
