Problems with Virgin core routers (South) again (2017-02-02)?

Pretty sure this particular piece of Virgin's core networks falls over every couple months:

sotn-core-2a-xe-1130-0.network.virginmedia.net

Today, sites like Amazon, Netflix, even Google periodically as well as a large subset of much of the rest of the net routing through that just goes no where.

Traceroutes show nothing getting past it but I can happily get to the whole net through a VPN, bypassing this little bugger.

Anyone else in the South getting this issue?

I did report it but bless her the woman on the line didn't really have a clue what I was on about.

Yeah, lots of people are having issues - see the mentions to @virginmedia on Twitter. VM Customer support worse than useless, saying they're not seeing any issues at all.

Ah yes, I've just messaged them on there.

I suspect the network team is working on it because in the last 20 minutes Google is now routing through Birmingham and Wolverhampton routers, and they've remote reset my router too cheeky buggers.

This also I would suspect explains the issues with Sky that people are having.

Re: Problems with Virgin core routers (South) again (2017-02-02)?

It's affecting a large subset of their inter-connectivity to the wider web.

Amazon (including all Prime services), some Google services (though they appear to be actively attempting to route through unaffected core routers), NowTV, their own onDemand, Netflix (some of their CDN seem unavaiable, perhaps the cache boxes they place inside Virgins network), many sites on AWS and about a dozen other small sites I've tried to connect to today are down.

Here's the downdetector map, if you can get on it:

Re: Problems with Virgin core routers (South) again (2017-02-02)?

I'm starting to suspect this could be an AWS interconnect issue rather than a pure Virgin issue. I did see Google go down and be re-routed but all remaining affected services seems to be using AWS.

Anyone got any issue with any non-AWS site?

Routing to Sky is now sorted ... within the last hour I reckon.

Hi,

If anyone is still experiencing streaming or routing problems can you please post here so we can gauge if this has been resolved or not.

Many thanks
