Powerline can not get above 80 mbps

After some help as I am now at a dead-end

Have very up and down speeds since I was upgraded to 150 and the new hub3

Lately wifi would drop out especially up stairs where the main pc is located

The hub is downstairs. They are connected by a powerline adaptor that gets wildly varied speeds one minute 80 next 20 , never anything solid unlike my old hub 2 on 100 mbps where I got a solid 95 to 100 on my old powerlines

I decided to get the virgin powerline with the WiFi thinking that would help with drop outs upstairs

But I can not get above 85 mbps sometimes it's as low as 20 on both the new and the old powerline.  these were rated 500 mbps the new ones are the virgin supplied 1000

The pc has a Gb lan

the WiFi is varied as well , even sitting right next to the Hub

This has all happened since the upgrade and the new hub

I have tried factory resets but no help also tried removing devices from the equation

I have no Gb device that I can connect directly to the hub but on a 100 connection it doesn't go above 90

I am at a loss the only common object is the hub

Help

Re: Powerline can not get above 80 mbps

Check the cable FROM the HUB to the FIRST powerline

Is it rated CAT5E or higher? Do you have a spare you can swap it out with (again CAT5E or higher)?

HUB3 is picky about cables in my experience. I upgraded all mine to CAT6

Also have you checked the speed the powerlines are communicating at? Theres usually a utility comes with them...

If the HUB is the limiting factor you should see a large disparity in the speed they are talking to each other, and speed tests across the network...

Re: Powerline can not get above 80 mbps

OK

Changed the cables to the supplied ones what ever rating they are

No changee

Checked the powerline stats, interesting

The rx rate is constant 250 the tx rate is never stable bounces aroundfrom the lowest i saw at 60 to 350 never stops on one figure for mire than 30 seconds

Re: Powerline can not get above 80 mbps

So that sounds like noise on the mains circuit..

Is the HUB close to the first powerline?

Can you move it further away (even just to test)

Re: Powerline can not get above 80 mbps

start simple.

Plug the laptop directly into the router using the cable ( even CAT5 will do 1Gb at 100M and has been doing it for over 15 years..) and test.

Next put the power lines next to each other, test.

Next put both on the same ring main,

Next one on another ring main,

TT

Re: Powerline can not get above 80 mbps

OK tested the following

Next to each other i got 140 , then 119 then 125 never solid

On the same circuit but in next room 80 and then 40

Back up stairs ..back to 40,70,80

The powerlines tx rate fluctuates between 326 and 450 the rx stays very much the same around 320

I have only had this trouble since being upgraded to 150

Re: Powerline can not get above 80 mbps

You need to step back from testing the powerline adapters and focus on the Hub 3.

Can you please post the power levels and also think about setting up a TBB monitor www.thinkbroadband.com/ping

Once you have the figures it may well be the issue is with the incoming signal to the Hub3 and nothing to do with the powerline adapters.

The TBB monitor is especially good at giving real time information on the state of your signal.

Good Luck !

Re: Powerline can not get above 80 mbps

I'm coming to the same conclusion

Playing around this morning on different sockets

Suddenly hit 125 on the original socket.nothing switched off or on or unpluged.

Then went back to 75

I'll set up the monitor and post the power bits

Thanks for the help
