No internet on one Laptop, all others working

So, I have an odd problem.

It's a Dell E7240, Win10.  Vivid 200, SuperHub 3.

The Laptop connects perfectly fine to the Router ( I can access Router setup page, connect to other devices on the network etc), but the Internet does not work. The Wifi icon in taskbar shows normally, ie no warning '!' to indicate that there is no internet available.

The router itself is connected to the internet fine, and internet works fine on all other devices (Multiple devices connected by Ethernet and Wifi, Ie desktop, other laptop, phones, TV etc).

What's more odd is that the laptop connects to the internet perfectly fine on other networks (ie at work at the moment).

I've power cycled the router, cleared temp files, released and renewed IP, flushed DNS Cache, uninstalled and reinstalled Wireless adaptor drivers.

Any thoughts?  It's getting very frustrating!

Re: No internet on one Laptop, all others working

Hi ManicUser,

Welcome to the forums, I am sorry to see that you have been having trouble with your connection to one of your laptops.

Does the laptop work ok on a wired connection?

While you are trying to connect please run a trace route to any external site for example http://www.bbc.co.uk/news and pop the results back here.

It may help us to determine what the issue is you are facing.

Speak to you soon.

Emma

Re: No internet on one Laptop, all others working

What is it's IP connection? Static or Dynamic? The ARRIS Hub 3.0 does not like static IP address settings.

My desktop on ethernet/LAN could see the rest of my network but not access the gateway properly, giving "server DNS address could not be found" errors. On resetting to DHCP automatic address setting, all works fine now. (This advice came from the phone helpdesk - Chris. Thanks.)

My other devices with dynamic address settings found the WiFi and connected to web fine...

Re: No internet on one Laptop, all others working

Thanks for the replies, I've been away this last week so hadn't seen them.

Yes, it does work via Ethernet.

I have not used tracrt before, would the following be correct:

tracert http://www.bbc.co.uk/news

Re: No internet on one Laptop, all others working

Thanks Graeme,

Whilst I do want to set some IPs up as static ( I haven't yet), at the moment all of them are Dynamic.  DHCP address setting is set to Auto.

Ok, double checked and Ethernet is fine.

An example tracert to howtogeek went as follows:
"
C:\>tracert www.howtogeek.com

Tracing route to howtogeek.map.fastly.net [151.101.62.15]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 4 ms 3 ms 2 ms 192.168.0.1
2 14 ms 15 ms 13 ms 10.233.192.1
3 19 ms 17 ms 38 ms croy-core-2a-xe-123-0.network.virginmedia.net [81.96.228.69]
4 * * * Request timed out.
5 * * * Request timed out.
6 21 ms 15 ms 34 ms . [62.254.42.198]

Re: No internet on one Laptop, all others working

Hi ManicUser,

Would you please check your IP and DNS settings (for your network card) on your laptop?

Make sure they're both set to auto and don't have specified data selected.

If those are fine please reboot your laptop into safe-mode-with-networking and re-attempt connection.

You may also want to check your firewall settings to ensure there are no restrictions preventing access.

Oh and please try using a different browser too.

Keep us updated Smiley Happy

Re: No internet on one Laptop, all others working

Thanks Jen.

Have booted to safe mode with networking. No change.

IP and DNS are set to Auto.

Have tried Opera, Edge and Chrome, no difference.

In safemode, so windows defender is off and no security software running on laptop.

As a test I switched off all security (firewall) on the superhub 3, it made no difference.

Re: No internet on one Laptop, all others working

Hi ManicUser,

Definitely seems like a DNS issue. I'd try the following:

1) Run the following commands command prompt in order, one after the other:

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

Then reboot the laptop (and hub) and try and get to a web page.

2) If the above fails, set your DNS settings manually on the laptop to the following:

Primary: 194.168.4.100

Secondary: 194.168.8.100

You can leave the IP settings to auto and let the hub do it's job of assigning the IP address.
