Re: New Customer Slow internet speeds

Hi statixeu thank you for your forum post, I would suggest connecting the PC with a Ethernet cable, this will give you a true representation of the speed you are receiving from your Virgin Superhub. One other thing I would also recommend is have a look in the wireless settings and use something such as WiFi analyzer on your mobile device to measure which is the least congested network if ethernet isn't an option you will have to configure your router for maximum performance and wireless coverage. - From what you are saying it seems as though there isn't an issue with the actual broadband as the speed you receive can be determined from certain factors,

Speed of which your network adapter operates. - generally either 150Mbps - 300Mbps depending on the adapter. if it is older it could be even less. - from what you are saying though 30Mbps is a good speed on wireless if you are subscribed to the 50 Mbps broadband.

Kind Regards,

Jake,

Re: New Customer Slow internet speeds

Hello thanks for your reply

I have now got a new wireless adapter of 200mbs and ethernet cable of 30

my speeds are now up to scratch, however my next problem is consistency, the ping shows as 10, but in games it fluctuates around 40-90 pingtest shows that i have jitter

the speeds are exactly the same from wireless and Ethernet, my old supplier talk talk which the speed wasn't desired, the internet connection was very reliable.

I have flushed my dns and reset my ip. no luck :/

Re: New Customer Slow internet speeds

In terms of the latency (Ping), this will vary depending on which servers you are connecting too. For example if you have friends who live in the USA your ping will be higher, one other thing you also need to remember is when you are playing with other people from around the world, whoever is hosting the game you will be connecting to the server in a country they are located in. If you tried doing a game by yourself and you connected to a UK server your ping would be lower.

Fantastic that you have sorted out your speed issues! think I will be investing in a 200mbps  NIC card

Re: New Customer Slow internet speeds

There is a problem with the Hub 3 (actually all routers using a certain intel processor) where it does not prioritize its workload effectively this causes ping spikes quite frequently apparently there is or will be an update to fix this, however intel will respond rapidly to sort this, virgin media could take months (bit like the modem mode bug which was about a year)

Re: New Customer Slow internet speeds

If you compare ping monitors you will see that the Hub 3 compared to any other virgin hub is horrific this will confirm the issue (they sell gamer broadband but right now its not on par as they insist people have the hub 3 with it) although I managed to keep the gamer service yet be on the SuperHub 2ac and keep the profile so for me its a win win right now

Re: New Customer Slow internet speeds

Oh and while I'm on the subject the gamer service has no benefit to actual gaming unless you need the extra upload speed (if you stream your gaming) although any smart gamer will have QOS running on their router to prevent the upload being saturated and effecting there pings (or response times to the game servers)
