Network Latency & Frequent Disconnects in Games

Hi,

Since about 2 or 3 days ago I now have constant disconnects in specifically Path of Exile game so have been trying to work out where the problem is. Note that other apps such as Youtube seem to experience timeouts along the way also so for a 150MB connection it seems a bit poor (Only the 1 pc on the network currently and hardwired ethernet directly to the router (2ft away). Windows 10 if that also helps Smiley Happy

This was over a long period so looks ok in general.

However what I am experiencing is every minute or so the node tcl5-ic-2-ae0-0.network.virginmedia.net [212.250.15.210] dissapears (request timed out) OR has 80%+ Packet loss at which time the game disconnects.

Any ideas or help as it has become unplayable?

Note that the game has useful network diagnostics so can see when latency is bad (to the host lon.login.pathofexile.com) although does not help fix it Smiley Happy

Thanks in advance,

Andy Howard

Re: Network Latency & Frequent Disconnects in Games

Additional frequent high ping terrible latency within Elder Scrolls Online. Fine for a few mins then an unknown high ping stage for no reason and back to normal. Cannot find the trouble and it has only happened in the last few days (started on the weekend) - No response from tech so guess this forum isnt at all useful.

The problem seems to be to the very 1st hop after my own router approximately every few minutes with all internet activity/traffic paused during the very high latency which usually causes game disconnects but also is visible in any non-cached access.

Is there something special I have to do to get a fault/issue raised?

Re: Network Latency & Frequent Disconnects in Games

Just to be nice and confused; cpc1-bigg3-2-0-gw.9-2.cable.virginm.net  is known by Google to be an unsafe site? Malware detected etc and VM virus Safe also blocks this (Which might just be all of their routers to stop browsing of course)

Seems there is a problem on my 1st hop tho for anything so I guess Im screwed (over a week now)

I would gladly sacrifice download speed for lower latency Smiley Happy

Re: Network Latency & Frequent Disconnects in Games

Hi hakfooq,

Thanks for getting in touch, I am sorry to see you have trouble with disconnects and latency.

I have taken a look and the general connection seems ok however the downstream power levels are a little on the high side.

I would like to get this corrected for you as it will not be helping the game play.

I will pop you a PM to get this arranged, keep an eye out for the Purple Envelope top right hand corner.

Are you using a wired or wireless connection by the way just curious if it is better/worse on one or the other.

Speak to you soon .

Emma

Re: Network Latency & Frequent Disconnects in Games

Late reply as been busy away sorry.

Have replied to the email but essentially the problem went away shortly after seeing an engineer fixing another problem in the area (same exchange/switch).

That box seems to have very noisy fans, then very quiet (probably fan death) then board overheat a few times in the last 2 years so suspect it was something related.
