Laptop Connection - VISTA

I am trying to connect a VISTA laptop and obviously the wireless settings need updating so I have connected via the LAN cable but I am having problem connecting that way - So I have set up Dial Up setting but it is asking me for USERNAME and PASSWORD - Is this my virgin log in and password or the password on the box

Any help appreciated

Re: Laptop Connection - VISTA

So I connect the cable but it just wont connect to the internet - it is just local - the two cables are flashing at either but it looks like the connection is being blocked with the outside world

If you've chosen up a dial-up setting, it will never connect to the LAN cable.  You will need to tick the LAN option.

You have not explained any detail of the "problem connecting that way" so it is difficult to advise further.

Re: Laptop Connection - VISTA

It's the same place as for setting up Dial-up in Internet Explorer. From the menu bar:

Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN Settings --> Automatically Detect

Don't forget to REMOVE the dial-up settings via the REMOVE option.

Re: Laptop Connection - VISTA

Thanks for everyone help but I think the hub just won't recognise vista wired or wireless. It just stays at local. Spent the whole day on it. Just wanted a quick solution for mum to do her grocery shopping looks like a new laptop. Argggggh

Re: Laptop Connection - VISTA
