This certainly sounds like a fault with your router.
I would give Virgin Media technical team a call to arrange for a swap out of your device.

Sorry to hear about your connection problems. Before we go ahead and order a replacement, can you confirm that when your connection drops, you're losing your hard-wired connection as well as the wireless? Also, do you notice if the lights change on your Hub when you're connection is down?
