Horrible speed / ping every sunday night

Hello,

Just as the post says really, for the last 6 months at least. The funny thing is Sunday night is when everyone else is out but me, I'm the only person using it. I pay for 100Mbps and both the speed and ping are horrendous. Results from speedtest / pingtest (will also provide links).

http://www.speedtest.net/result/5813847746.png
Download - 36.65Mb/s
Upload - 5.97Mb/s
Ping - 28ms

That's from speedtest. I don't think the ping is accurate though. In-game (for all the games I play) it can be between 100-250ms. I ran a test on pingtest and got these results. I've rang ping test twice to show it isn't a spike in the ping.

http://www.pingtest.net/result/155273893.png
Ping - 125ms
Jitter - 100ms

http://www.pingtest.net/result/155274316.png
Ping - 105ms
Jitter - 83ms

I've had this issue every Sunday as long as I can remember, on both my PC and my Xbox One. If these can't be resolved I'll just cancel, because I am beyond it being an issue on my end, I've spoken to Virgin Media before who had me jumping through hoops so here's what I've done so far.

Restarted the router.
Modem mode.
Forwarded ports.
Factory reset the router.
Bought a NEW router and used the hub in modem mode through the new router.

Nothing has fixed this issue, I'm 100% sure my speeds are being throttled BY Virgin. I get low speed / high ping across several devices (PC / Xbox / Laptop) and have tried all their troubleshooting.

I simply don't have it in me to contact them via phone again, customer service is below 0 stars, they just tell me I need to go through these steps (steps I've already been through) and I'm thoroughly sick of them. The support agent I spoke to had no clue what she was talking about, I told her I was connected wired and she told me to try connecting wired at one point -_- they don't even listen.

Re: Horrible speed / ping every sunday night

Updated results from this Sunday also.

http://www.pingtest.net/result/155616699.png

Ping - 106ms
Jitter - 82ms

If this issue can't be resolved I'll be cancelling my service, it makes gaming absolutely impossible

Re: Horrible speed / ping every sunday night

Hi Frogster8,

Thanks for posting on the community. It's nice to have you here.

I'm sorry to read that you are having issues with your broadband connection.

I would like to check your connection for any issues, however I was unable to locate your account. I've sent you a PM (purple envelope icon, right corner) requesting some details. Once you have replied I can look further into this.

Hope to hear from you soon

Sam

Re: Horrible speed / ping every sunday night

I also am very much having ping issues. It is now making playing anything over the internet impossible. I have ping times over 500ms right now. Even typing this is difficult as there is a delay between hitting keys and having them appear on the screen. It is even missing some letters that I have to go back and re-type, I can only assume this is related to the 100% packet loss some speedtest tools are getting occasionally. The website claims there is no issue, anywhere, which is clearly not true. Is this a result of the recent network "maintenance" or does it have something to do with being required to retain our browsing history for a year? Please sort it out whatever the issue is. P.S. Wow, I don't even know if I can post this, I can't get to me email to verify my account the connection is so bad!

Hey Frogster8,

Thanks for posting Smiley Very Happy

Sorry to hear about the connection problems you're experiencing.

I've checked your readings and I can see a very high amount of time-outs.

We'll need to get an engineer around to look into this. I'll drop you a PM (purple envelope, top right) to confirm an appointment.

Speak with you soon,

Take care.

Re: Horrible speed / ping every sunday night

Exactly the same issue here.

We pay for a 150mbps connection, but every Sunday specifically, the connection is abysmal. Speeds of 2-5mbps, and a ping of 300-1000.

Re: Horrible speed / ping every sunday night

It really is ridiculous, I've had it for months and I've tried everything to fix it, even read somewhere its due to the superhub 2 virgin use so I purchased a £100 netgear router and it still hasn't fixed the issue. Definitely, 100% a virgin issue, I've done everything I can to fix it, even put the router in modem mode and ran one wired ethernet to my computer and the ping is still 60ms. So in an ideal situation with only one computer directly attached to my 100mbps internet my ping is still 60ms -_- not good enough.

Re: Horrible speed / ping every sunday night

Here is a link to my result with the superhub in modem mode and my computer connected directly via ethernet.

http://www.pingtest.net/result/156045545.png

Should be a lot lower considering it is the only thing connected directly to the router (in modem mode).

If I do a tracert to my router (in modem mode) it returns the following result.

"C:\WINDOWS\system32>tracert 192.168.100.1

Tracing route to 192.168.100.1 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.100.1

Trace complete."

So there are no issues there, the ping is happening past this point on the virgin media side.

Here is a tracert of me pinging virginmedia.com over a maximum of 30 hops

"C:\WINDOWS\system32>tracert virginmedia.com

Tracing route to virginmedia.com [62.254.123.91]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 79 ms 11 ms 11 ms 10.190.76.1
