Ethernet Cable

Hello! Smiley Happy

I am a Superhub 2 user, and I have a question about Ethernet Cables.

I have been told that using an Ethernet cable can better broadband as opposed to WiFi.

As an online gamer I want my ping to be better. I purchased the following:

CSL - 30m - CAT.6 Ethernet Gigabit Lan network cable (RJ45) | 10/100/1000Mbit/s | Patch cable | UTP | compatible with CAT.5 / CAT.5e / CAT.7 | Switch/Router/Modem/Patch panel / Access Point /

But sadly my ping didn't change much. In fact, it got worse at times. I've decided to go back to WiFi as I search for a better solution:

I am wondering is there a specific type of CAT cable to be best compatible with my Virgin superhub.

Other info

I am using the setting 2.4Ghz as when I use the 5ghz setting my speeds are very low.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Ethernet Cable

The cat6 cable is fine (as is cat5) and this will not be the speed limiting factor.  But I don't know what that would be.

Re: Ethernet Cable

Hey, thanks for the response legacy1 Smiley Happy

The ethernet cable I tried sadly didn't work Smiley Sad I'm wondering the difference between the three you posted above and the one I bought

CSL - 30m - CAT.6 Ethernet Gigabit Lan network cable (RJ45) | 10/100/1000Mbit/s | Patch cable | UTP | compatible with CAT.5 / CAT.5e / CAT.7 | Switch/Router/Modem/Patch panel / Access Point /

Thank you.

Re: Ethernet Cable

The cable is not shielded vs the ones I posted.

Re: Ethernet Cable

plus sounds like a WRONG eBay listing.

A cat6 cable is not compatible with CAT7

Typical eBay. buy cheap rubbish claim it will work with everyone

Re: Ethernet Cable

what is weird is that you get less latency using wifi. WiFi only works one way at a time and has to take turns with all other wifi conected devices. It could just be that the switch on the hub is terrible.

Or else the ethernet adaptor is badly setup or poor quality. What are you connecting to the Hub, is it a pc and if so what os etc?

when you have a mo, could you try opening a dos box and pinging the hub at 192.168.0 1 using an ethernet connection and then using wifi.

on the whole as long as you have cat5e or above the cable shouldn't really make a difference unless you have a faulty cable.
