Controlling Wireless access by time

Dear all

I want to be able to turn off wifi access after a certain time say 10pm at night, so that only a cabled connection will work.

The following link suggests that this is possible.

http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Forum-Archive/Controlling-wireless-access-by-time/m-p/1666562/hi...

Does anyone have any information on how to do this using Virgin Media Super Hub 2ac?

Thanks

Paul

Hi Bicwyzer,

Sorry about that I should have put a link in my last post!

Here's a handy guide on how to set it up.

Let us know how you get on and if there's anything more we can help with.

Cheers

John

Re: Controlling Wireless access by time

Hi Bicwyzer,

I'm afraid there isn't a specific utility for this on the hubs but you can set up timed access for MAC addresses on your network if there are specific devices like a playstation or tablet that you'd like to block from 10pm.

Other than that you can hold the WPS button on the front of the hub to turn wireless on and off but of course this isn't exactly automatic.

I hope this helps somewhat.

Re: Controlling Wireless access by time

Hello John

thanks for getting back to me, regarding

"you can set up timed access for MAC addresses on your network if there are specific devices like a playstation or tablet that you'd like to block from 10pm"

That is perfect and exactly what I would like to be able to do.

Do you have some step by step instructions on how I can do this?

Thanks

Paul

Re: Controlling Wireless access by time

Hello John

I have now set this up for example I can see my Iphone is currently connected, however when I apply a MAC filter for all day every day it is having no effect. I did call Virgin Media helpline and they said that this functionality is not available until Hub 3.0 comes out.

I did check that the MAC address being show connected to the router matches the IP address of my phone, and added the following rule and clicked apply.

I was expecting the rule below to prevent my phone from connecting and using apps.

Am I doing something wrong?

Timed Access Day
  Time
  Enable  X
Delete

EverydayAll day

Re: Controlling Wireless access by time

Thanks John

That worked great.

One thing that threw me was the fact it still allows you to connect however when I tested no data can be transferred. Great stuff

Re: Controlling Wireless access by time

Hi

I do not have a super hub 3, I have a 2ac and used the following instructions.

If these are still not helping let me know and I can try and produce a more detailed document.

Remember you will need to get the mac address of the machine/device that you are wanting to block.
