Re: Avast Firewall Question

As it's a laptop and you may well be away from home using it then use PUBLIC... without any doubt!!!!

(PRIVATE/FRIENDLY is relatively unsafe as it assumes you know the network AND anyone/thing that may be attached to it for use!!!)

...ZVNK ...

Re: Avast Firewall Question

Thanks.
Is there a need to use a software firewall when there's one on the router?

Re: Avast Firewall Question

For Avast Network Profiles I have Enable automatic profile switching ticked and the profile as public with friends greyed out, does this sound ok?

Re: Avast Firewall Question

Yes its good to have a firewall thats in the hardware, but the software firewall you can carry with you, so if you was to connect to another network that didn't have a hardware firewall, of even so if other people are connected to that network it can help protect your from them, or any malicious threats, allbeit not everything but yes you should have both really, I mean software can even setup port forwards via UPnP with a router, so having the firewall can in some cases be beneficial

Re: Avast Firewall Question

If its your home network that its asking you about then choose the private option for that connection as you know it is safe and you know whats connected to your own network, when you connect to another network it will prompt you again to make a choice, so if it is a public network like wifi in the bar or similar you would choose the option public for that new connection, you will get a choice every time Smiley Happy
