Assigning Static IPs

Hi guys, first time poster.

I have a number of devices that require internet connections, obviously. Recently I have noticed both mine and my partner's phone have not been connected and they state they failed to obtain IP address.

I have read that assigning Static IP can help this...Can anyone advise I assign static IPs to all my devises so I don't get this or any conflicts in the future?

Appreciate your feedback! Thank you!

Re: Assigning Static IPs

What hub do you have ? Do you have your own router and your hub connected in modem mode only ?

Re: Assigning Static IPs

Hi pyrotenax.

It's the home hub 3 I believe. It is not in modem mode and does not use any other router.

The only other networking devices I have are some powerlifter adapters which have been installed along side since day one.

Thanks,
Andy.

Re: Assigning Static IPs

Hey Andy,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the community Smiley Very Happy

Sorry to hear about the connection problems you're having.

It's possible to reserve an IP address via DHCP reservation, but I think you should try changing your wireless channel first to see if this improves the performance of your wireless. Do you notice if your Ethernet connections struggle too?

Catch you soon,

Take care.

Re: Assigning Static IPs

Hi Heather,

Thanks for the reply. Without doing anything it seems to have resolved itself. The wired devices were always OK, it was just the phone that having the issue.

I would still be interested in assigning statics though.

Re: Assigning Static IPs

Hey Andy,

Thanks for letting me know, good to hear your connection has settled down Smiley Very Happy

You can reserve an IP address by access the Advanced Settings of your Hub (192.168.0.1) and under DHCP you will have the options to reserve an IP address.

I hope this helps,

Take care.
