Helpful Answer

IPhone 4s

I know that this subject has already been covered in another thread somewhere, but it's become a little complicated over a period of time, so could I ask for some guidance please? I have another 7 months of my contract with VM to run and am more than satisfied. It will be my intention to continue and then replace this contract with a sim only deal ...... However, I am about to buy an iPhone 4s and need to know how I go about making this phone work with VM? Do I cut my sim down (how?) or can I ask VM to send me a micro sim? And will either of these actions then allow me to use VM in full? If I can't do this then I'll have to cut my losses and go to a network provider that can offer a sim only deal. Any advice would be gratefully received as I really don't want to leave VM, having been with them for several years. Thanks .....

Re: IPhone 4s

To be perfectly honest with you, If you specifically want to remain on virgin mobile and use an iPhone 4s I would personally wait till they fully support the iPhone 4s and there micro sim, and then get your iPhone 4s from virgin when you know all the hic-ups have been ironed out. I have a iPhone 4s on the o2 network with micro sim and haven't had any issues with it.

Re: IPhone 4s

Cut your sim card down at a phone shop. Your iPhone will pick up the user settings over your wi if initially. My iPhone 4s works perfectly on vm's network.

Re: IPhone 4s

dotdot,

How can your micro sim be working fine if you can't use the MMS?

For that reason, I would advise people to wait till virgin have ironed out all the glitches with the micro sim.

Cutting them down does work for many users, but there is loads that are having issues once they cut there sims down.

Re: IPhone 4s

Dozer, thanks for your help so far ...... Under normal circumstances I would heed your advice, as it makes perfect sense. The big issue however is the question of WHEN will VM supply / support iPhone? Which is the very reason for my query, as I am no longer prepared to wait for an indeterminable amount of time (and IT may NEVER happen). As I have already said, it would be my preference to remain as a VM customer and I will now purchase an iPhone 4s outright and hopefully get it to work on the VM network - if not, well I'll just have to go elsewhere, which would be a shame. I am still waiting to see if somebody can advice me about the process for actually getting a micro sim fro VM.

Re: IPhone 4s

trev747,

From what I can determine, virgin mobile are providing micro simcards with mobiles that require one that are directly purchased from virgin mobile.    I haven't heard any thing as to when you can simply acquire one for a mobile not purchased directly from virgin, or a unlocked sim free mobile as yet, but as soon as I know some thing myself I post the details.

                                                        Regards dozer167

Re: IPhone 4s

No offence, but who uses mms when you have iMessage, what's app and email to send pictures. My 4s works a treat and now has 3G on the orange network too. Also VM contacted me two months ago to see how I was going and I told them I now had a 4s and they offered me a sim only deal with three times the minutes. Reduced from £21 per month to £ 8.53-awesome! Go get your iPhone and enjoy, it may be years for vm to support it officially and look at issues on here over vm supplied micro sims-just get your cut down.

Re: IPhone 4s

Jsnmac , thanks for this advice ...... I'll go with plan A, and get the iPhone4s and get my sim cut down. All being well I can stay with VM, and when contract ends in 7 months go for a good sim only deal. Thanks to all posters for their advice.

jsnmac,

iMessages are only good for iphone to iphone, so your point, who uses mms, you do! when your messaging a none iPhone user.
