I do hope you get a proper answer. Sorry not to be of use but at least you know you are not alone!
I had exactly the same problem with ntlworld email on Galaxy S3. All working fine from June until this Monday afternoon when no incoming mail - could still send. Good signal on network/ wifi all the time.
I managed to get it working again after trying various things over 4 hours. Deleted and reinstalled email account several time with rebooting phone. I even tried POP3 settings but reverted to IMAP as POP3 started to download a year of messages but got stuck after 7 months! (I found virginmedia's instructions for recent POP3 30 days only but these did not work for me). Have no idea what caused problem with incoming emails or which particular action caused phone to work again.
The account settings are all exactly as they were before it had communication problems.

thank you its nice to know I'm not alone! I am banging my head against the wall, i have tried everything. i have installed the IMAP settings and got all my emails from 2010 and 2011, deleted them all and then it just stopped. i rang virgin up and they were very unhelpfull (bordering on rude/not interested) i tried un installing and then re installing hte account several times and now i am back to square one. i have my emails from 2 weeks ago but no new ones ( i know i have missed some) I can still access my account if i hop on to the internet and log in etc it is just the app that has suddenly stopped working. did you get yours fixed? for my incoming i have my settings as imap.ntlworld.com SSL port 993 and for my outgoing settings stmp.virginmedia.com SSL and port 465 i am now back to getting my error message " connection error (NTL world). ANY HELP GRATEFULLY RECEIVED!!!

Hi glofty1,
Try these Virgin email settings. Also make sure that wherever else you're reading your emails doesn't delete them from the server in the settings.
Many thanks.

Hi, I got my mobile from Vodafone (been with them for years) and at the time of re negotiating my contract Virgin did not have the S3. Are you having Email connection problems with yours?
