Blackberry Curve 8520 & Signal problems

This is a 2G phone on VMs £10pm deal.

The phone is great but the signal is very poor which is limiting my ability to make calls, texts and use "unlimited" Internet. Have tried the helpline but other than checking that the SIM card worked no further forward and an engineer is supposed to phone me back.....

Have checked the signal strength on VMs & T Mobile web sites and it is good to excellent at my home address. Can anyone give me advice as to whether this phone is worth keeping or should I return under 28 day return policy?

Re: Blackberry Curve 8520 & Signal problems

I'm the same mate. I love the wee phone, but the signal is abysmal. It's the phone that's at fault. I put my virgin sim into my old unlocked LG arena and i get 5 bars and internet is great. Back in the Curve it's signal for a while, then nothing, then 1-2 bars at best. Seems to work ok outside, but not downstairs in my house.

I have found switching off the wi-fi helps a bit.

Kinda defeats the purpose of why i choose the handset etc. I can't decide whether to hand it back either.

I can't get any decent tech support either.

Re: Blackberry Curve 8520 & Signal problems

I had the same problem aswell but now I get five bars most of the time in my blackberry curve 8520 from virgin media. Try texting the word YES to 789333. This activates the service on the blackberry. Tech support told me to do this and it worked for me. Good to give it a try but dont know if its going to help your situation though. The text is free by the way.
