What on earth have I done to my Samsung Galaxy Ace? I can't receive or make calls or send or receive texts, even when I have a good signal.
I've checked the message centre number and it's correct.
No problem connecting to the net with or without wireless network.

Quick update. Just got my son to look at it and he's got it to make and receive calls.
Still doesn't send or receive messages, though.

I'd already tried that. All it meant was that I couldn't use the internet. Message sending and receiving still failed.
I've read the sticky at the top of this forum about the problem with text messages. On another forum I read that there was a firmware update I could get through Kies.
I've downloaded Kies and connected my phone - to be told by Kies that "This version of the device cannot be updated".
So I am still left with no messaging facility.

I've done that, but once I've switched the phone off and on again, when I check the number, it's not +447958879890 and, not surpisingly, messages fail.
So I'm trying again, and have got as far as inputting the number into the box next to SMSC - the cursor is still flashing in the box. Should I do something else before pressing the back button?

Aha! Got to message centre number by using Message list > Settings > Message centre, deleted the number and re-entered the number above, including the +.
Now works, though only with packet data turned off.
Got there in the end. Ta very much.
