new mobile contract + phone but keeping old number

Im looking to get a new handset on contract (im currently on PAYG with an old handset). My current phone has a regular sim card, the new one im looking at getting takes a nano sim. My question is how could I keep the same number without hassle?

My hubby had a right faff about when he got his last contract phone as they sent a new sim out with it, when he called up to transfer his number over he ended up having to send the entire handset and sim back and getting a new handset, minus sim, sent back to him. After about 6mths we noticed that the sim we'd returned had still been getting billed every month and there was a long phonecall to convince them we didn't have the sim and weren't trying to scam them out of refunding the money (despite the sim showing that no calls, texts or data had ever been used on it). I just don't want all this hassle again.

Re: new mobile contract + phone but keeping old number

Hi Kelknox,

make it clear as you order that you wish to upgrade.
(Or you'll end up in the same pickle as hubby).

Easy if you're doing so over the phone but I've just had a quick look online:

"Add them to your basket and tell us you’re an existing Virgin Mobile customer

Did you know you automatically get to keep your current number?
No tricky PAC codes here. Got multiple numbers?
Simply choose which one you want to upgrade."

I presume the option to "tell us" must present itself somewhere in the order process if you prefer to do so online.

Hi kelknox,

call the team and make it very clear that you wish to upgrade your current Pay As You Go SIM when applying for a pay monthly phone and contract.

Keeping your same number (any balance will also be automatically transferred).

Thanks AlexKid (love the name btw), should I order the phone then call them, or call beforehand? x

Re: new mobile contract + phone but keeping old number

Thank you for your help. Just ordered my new phone and was asked if I needed a new SIM or wanted to upgrade my existing PAYG SIM, so chose that option.

Fingers crossed it all works out lol

xx
