4G Pay Monthly and BlackBerry phone

I still like to use my BlackBerry Curve on workdays as my call/text/email device.

But if I change my current 3G tariff to the new 4G deal, does that mean I won't be able to use that phone at all because it runs on the old BBOS7?

Or does it mean that the phone will work as before but not on 4G speeds (i.e. just defaults downwards to 3G)?

Thanks in advance.

Re: 4G Pay Monthly & BlackBerry phone

4G Tariffs and allowances won't work with older Blackberry phones. You'll need to stay on the 3G tariff.

4G will work with Blackberry phones on BB10 or Android as far as I'm aware.

Re: 4G Pay Monthly & BlackBerry phone

OK thanks, understood.

A decision to make then - stay on 3G to carry on with the old phone, or upgrade to 4G (with double deal) at 20% higher cost & use with a newer phone.

Re: 4G Pay Monthly & BlackBerry phone

Sorry, just been thinking about this a bit more.

Does this mean that if I did try to use the 4G sim in the older 3G phone, I would be charged for any usage on PAYG rates? That is, I would be "outside the tariff"?

Many thanks.

Re: 4G Pay Monthly & BlackBerry phone

Normally your core tariff would work in an older 3G phone, just at 3G speeds.

But there is no BIS provision on 4G for the older Blackberry phones, and as far as I understand it this stops most 'smart' functions working on the phone including the browser.
