feeling ripped off

been with virgin 20 years latest bill over £140 a month phoned to say not happy.

downgraded package. supplied new tivo box. tivo box slow and buffering new package channels

limited, to say the least. rang up to cancel the package and they now say I've got to pay £250 because 

I've entered into a new contract .surely this is a rip-off

hiya @bigears2 adding/removing packages normally triggers a new 12 month contract where you not advised this during the call?, also how long between getting the new box and making the call to cancel? since virginmedia do have a cooling off period to change your mind.
