Why has my Bill gone up?

So I was called by a Virgin Representative stating that as a loyal customer they could reduce my Monthly Broadband only deal if I entered into a contract to receive a Virgin TV Box. I received the box on the agreed date but cannot connect it as I appear to have a dated connection point which is nowhere near the TV. The standalone broadband hub is connected to the existing point. I cannot therefore enjoy Virgin TV and heyho my bill has increased to over £40 with no warning! Please advise my options before I am forced to leave and find a cheaper deal
