Military Discount

Can someone confirm if Virgin Media offers an armed forces discount?

The company has signed the armed forces covenant and have included a paragraph about offering a discount to the armed forces - see the document here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/336008/Virgin_Media_Corpor...

However how to actually claim it seems a bit vague. Does a virgin media employee have to square it away for you? If so, not much of an 'armed forces discount' is it??

Re: Military Discount

The penultimate paragraph makes no sense at all to me.  It's titled 'Offering a discount to members of the armed forces community' but then says 'We offer Virgin Media discounted rates to Employees of VM who in turn have access to a 'mates rates' deal.'

So you have to be on the frontline up to your neck in muck and bullets whilst repairing VM's street cabinets ???

Re: Military Discount

Might also be worth firming up on the issue of any early disconnection fee during contract in the event of a sudden/unexpected posting which is out of your control.

This has cropped up before where VM has attempted to impose the fee with staff having no knowledge of the Covenant which is to prevent forces personnel being unfairly disadvantaged due to the unique commitment to the country.

Good luck with it.

Re: Military Discount

Both helpful replies but wondered if someone from VM would care to comment? Call centre have no idea whatsoever...

Re: Military Discount

Hi

There's a lot of good things in the covenant, but from an account perspective we recognise the difficulties serving personnel face in signing up to TV, broadband and phone services, which often require contracts of 12-months or longer. To help them get the full benefit of our services, we give members of the forces the option to ‘freeze’ their accounts for up to eight months at a time and pay nothing while on active service;

We don't currently offer an "armed forces" discount.

The the covenant reflects the fact that as part of supporting members of the armed forces community that work with us (reservists, spouses, former members of the armed services), we offer an employee discount. Those of us with friends or links to the community can offer "Mates Rates" discounts.

Thanks
