Requesting kit replacements comes with a charge (£14 something last I read) which covers administrative+activation etc costs. The best bet would be to contact the broadband faults team. Call in wise ring 150 from a VM phone / 0345 454 1111 from any phone -> Option 1 -> Confirm your details -> Option 2 (faults) -> report a broadband fault. State your case well enough and they could give you a free hub replacement.
You can also reach them through the Webchat from a laptop or desktop between 8AM to 8PM M-Sa: Broadband -> Service fault -> Chat online. If all of the agents are busy reload the page every 3 minutes (or less) and cheek again, repeatedly, until you get through to an agent.
